Building Performance Technician Certification

BERs Building Performance Technician (BPT) certification courses equip candidates with the knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience required to work as a Certified Building Performance Technician. This includes performing field evaluations and consultations for new construction projects. The BPT certification is divided into three levels, each with instructional modules tailored to develop the skills required at that level. This document outlines the goals, learning objectives, and assessment details for each certification level, starting with Level 1, which can be achieved by professionals with prerequisite industry experience or newcomers to the building performance field.

Air Tightness Technician (ATT) Training and Certification

This certification course provides candidate with the necessary knowledge, skills, and practical experience to conduct air tightness testing on residential buildings. This course will review how to conduct blower door, duct leakage and ventilation testing, for the purposes of diagnosing air leakage and ventilation balancing issues within residential buildings and providing information on how to correct any findings from these tests. Students who complete their certification will be equipped to conduct testing on residential buildings that demonstrates prescriptive code compliance and/ or measures the effectiveness of improvement to the home’s energy efficiency.

RESNET Professional Training and Certification

BER offers RESNET Professional Trainings and certification that includes HERS Rater, Rating Field Inspector (RFI) and HERS Modeller designations for residential energy professionals. RESNET Professionals are trained to assess every aspect of a residential structure for its relevant energy efficiency, such as insulated building assemblies and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. BER's Online Professional Trainings combined with BER's Mentorship Certification program meet all RESNET requirements for certification.

NECB / NBC 9.36 Energy Code Advancement Workshops

The Energy Code Advancement (ECA) workshops will provide participants with the necessary support to navigate advancing Canadian energy construction codes. These workshops will review upcoming changes to the National Building Code of Canada (NBC) Section 9.36. (residential buildings) and National Energy Code for Buildings (NECB) (commercial buildings), and how these changes are being applied in the participants region. The workshops will provide information on how participants can navigate these changes based on the sector of the construction industry they are working within and offer a deep dive into solutions and supports available to keep them productive during the code transitions.

Air Tightness Technician (ATT) – Complex Building Testing

This add-on course provides certified ATT course graduates with the necessary knowledge, skills, and practical experience to conduct air tightness testing in commercial and other complex buildings. This course will review how to conduct blower door, duct leakage and ventilation testing, for the purposes of diagnosing air leakage and ventilation balancing issues within commercial and complex buildings and providing information on how to correct any findings from these tests. Students who complete this course will be equipped to conduct testing on commercial buildings to demonstrate code or energy program compliance and/ or measures the effectiveness of improvement to the building’s energy efficiency.
